Pooh Chopped From Hong Kong
Moviegoers in Hong Kong won't be able to watch the horror flick Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey after it was pulled just days ahead of its scheduled release. No official explanation has been revealed, but Variety offered the theory that the touchy subject of China's president Xi Jinping being compared to the previously exclusive Disney character by critics may have had something to do with it. Mainland China also blocked the 2018 release of Disney's Christopher Robin film that had been set to open in more than 30 theaters across Hong Kong.
Ringling Bros. Return
A revamped experience is coming to The Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus. The iconic entertainment brand has reimagined a show to feature new and daring performances — but will exclude any animals. One of the best known traveling circuses is making its return after shuttering operations in 2018 due to financial hardships and concerns from the public about the treatment of its non-human performers. Ringling Bros. said it will lean on innovative tech and immersive experiences to sell tickets in the revised "Greatest Show on Earth."
DeVito on Broadway
Danny DeVito is making his way back to the Great White Way. The It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia actor is set to star in a new Broadway play titled I Need That. It's the story of a man that has to reckon with his hoarding ways and decide what is valuable versus what isn't — or face eviction. He's set to star alongside his daughter, Lucy DeVito. Previews and the full slate of shows have not been revealed yet, but it's all going up at the Roundabout's American Airlines Theater in October.
