Wondering what to watch this weekend? We suggest Beanie Babies, a very unfunny Steve Carell, a shark attack classic, and our first podcast partner pick!

The Beanie Bubble - Apple TV+

Picked by Newsletter Writer Graison Dangor

Did anybody make it through the 90s without being affected by Beanie Babies? A few months after its Tetris origin story, Apple+ TV has released another business drama exploring something trivial that seemed, for a moment, like everything. Even if I wasn't interested in learning the backstory of these floppy toys, I would watch the movie just for the cast: Geraldine Viswanathan, a fresh-out-of Succession Sarah Snook, Elizabeth Banks and an almost unrecognizable Zach Galifianakis as Ty Warner, the man whose name appeared on countless heart-shaped tags (which I obsessively guarded from being removed by others).

The Patient - Hulu

Picked by Lawrence Banton

This is Steve Carell like you've never seen him before. The typically funny guy takes up a more serious role in this dark short series. He plays Alan Strauss, who works as a psychiatrist, and he's eventually taken prisoner by a patient. The series is a game of cat and mouse as the patient seeks more intimate help with a very major problem. Watch as Strauss works to convince his patient to set him free through intense psych sessions.

Throwback Pick

Sharknado - AMC+ and various for purchase

Picked by Senior Editor Dina Ross

The nonsense that started it all. This 2013 made-for-TV cult classic stars 1990's teen heartthrobs Ian Ziering and Tara Reid try to save Los Angeles when a freak hurricane drops hungry sharks on the city. Oscar-worthy, this is not. But I can tell you from experience that when you're on family vacation and a rainy day hits, this will keep everyone in a fun mood (although I don't recommend it for young kids - it's rated R). And if you like it, there are six movies in the series.
