Wondering what to watch this weekend? This week we have a wacky combo of a bat mitzvah battle, Jake Paul, and a weird medieval podcast.

You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah - Netflix

Picked by Senior Editor Dina Ross

It has just come to my attention that this new Netflix film starring Adam Sandler's family, Idina Menzel and others is coming out Friday. You don't see too many films focused on the Jewish ritual of welcoming kids into the community as adults, but it is true that for these families the rite of passage is perhaps the biggest milestone there is. And it's often accompanied by a big party which can rival a wedding. It can be a scene and I hope the Sandlers will make this a good time.

Untold: Jake Paul the Problem Child

Picked by Growth Associate Keara O’Driscoll

As one of the most controversial figures on the internet, Jake Paul has made quite the name for himself. Paul has worn many hats as a YouTuber, actor, now boxer; but the most influential might be his marketing skills. This film documents the lead-up to one of the most important fights of his career, along with an insight into the life of the polarizing figure.

Weird Medieval Guys - Podcast providers

Picked by Newsletter Writer Graison Dangor

This new podcast is an outgrowth of the Twitter/X account that shares bizarre illustrations from the medieval era, such as a rabbit with a shield attacking a knight, a bespectacled boar weaving yarn, and headless bodies with faces on their torsos.  Obviously none of those great images can be used in a podcast, but the co-hosts apply the same irreverent spirit for discussions of the history of the era (~400–~1400 C.E.). Early episodes cover why medieval art is so weird, “Sieging for Dummies,” and “Would a Single Dorito Really Kill a Medieval Peasant?”
