From a radio juggernaut making its way onto TV to more fallout from the shooting death of Halyna Hutchins on the set of 'Rust,' here are the entertainment headlines for today.
'The Breakfast Club' on BET
One of iHeart Media's premiere radio shows, Power 105.1's The Breakfast Club, has a new viewing home on BET. The New York City-based show made the announcement on Thursday and revealed the new morning rush show would launch on April 17 and air simultaneously with the terrestrial radio show.
The move is part of a broader transformation for the show, which first launched in December 2010 and included a shake up of its hosts. Brooklyn native Angela Yee departed from the show earlier this year after more than a decade of hosting alongside Charlamagne Tha God and DJ Envy. Since then, a number of guest hosts have rotated in as the search for a permanent co-host continues.
The Breakfast Club will be the first daytime show in BET's history and the first daily on the network since 106 & Park concluded in 2014.
"BET has been the home of so many cultural institutions, like Rap City and 106 & Park, that have shaped a generation. Those shows laid the foundation for The Breakfast Club to stand on and grow into the cultural institution that we have become. We look forward to carrying out the tradition," Charlamagne Tha God, said in a statement.
'Boy Meets World' Link Up
Whenever the cast of the hit '90s show Boy Meets World links up, we're typically all-in, and this time is no different. Most of the cast from the show is set to reunite in Tampa later this year for 90s Con, according to Variety. The event is set to highlight the nostalgic vibes from the decade, the era's most memorable music, hit shows, and memorabilia.
However, the show's protagonist, Corey Matthews, played by Ben Savage (currently also pursuing a political career) will not attend. He apparently isn't into convention reunions.
'Rust' Shooting Update
More consequences from the shooting death of the cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of the movie Rust are rolling in. Dave Halls, the assistant director of the film, was sentenced to a suspended six-month jail sentence for his role in her death. Halls pleaded no contest to negligent use of a deadly weapon and the unsafe handling of a firearm charges.
He will also be required to testify in all necessary hearings related to other defendants in the case. Halls was responsible for giving the weapon that killed Hutchins to Alec Baldwin, who let off a single round that struck her.
Baldwin currently faces two counts of involuntary manslaughter, along with Hannah Gutierrez-Reed who was the film's armorer. Both have pleaded not guilty and could face up to five years in prison if convicted.
