From a super run at the theaters to a super list of honored entertainers, here are you top entertainment headlines.

'Super Mario' Box Office

The Super Mario Bros. Movie just became the biggest video game adaptation ever. So far, the film has raked in over $500 million at the global box office to also become the highest grossing theatrical release of 2023.

The movie almost never got off the ground after Nintendo kept delaying the project out of concerns that it might flop. The original 1993 live-action was a massive failure, and, according to Variety, has been considered one of the worst films ever produced. The 2023 release, starring Chris Pratt, Charlie Day, Jack Black, and Anya Taylor-Joy, had a budget of $100 million, considered something of a deal since animated films can cost twice as much.

Amazon and MGM IP

Amazon Studios is said to be in talks to bring a slew of film and TV projects to its streaming platform, and the allure is that it could be planning to give new life to existing IP that have resonated with audiences over the years. Robocop, Stargate, Legally Blonde, Fame, Barbershop, and Pink Panther are just some of the properties Amazon is in talks to develop.

The streamer has access to the extensive catalog after it acquired the former film and TV giant MGM for $8.5 billion in 2021. More details about the development of the content are yet to be revealed.

100 Most Influential

Time Magazine has released its list of the 100 most influential people and leading the top of the column for artists is New Jersey's very own Michael B. Jordan. Director Ryan Coogler penned an article about Jordan and his extensive resume — which he noted is longer than the professional careers of LeBron James and Tom Brady. Coogler paid homage to Jordan's hard work and dedication to his craft and also said "that his best work is still to come."

Other notable artists on the list include Drew Barrymore, Ali Wong, Austin Butler, Rian Johnson, Judy Blume, and Colin Farrell.
